Creating Your First Person
How to add the first person to your genogram canvas.
Every genogram starts with a single person. Here's how to add your first family member.
Using the Add Person Button
- Look for the Add Person button in the top toolbar
- Click it to open the gender selection menu
- Choose: Male, Female, or Other
- A new person symbol appears in the center of the canvas

Setting Basic Information
After adding a person, double-click them to open the Inspector panel:
- Name - Enter first and last name
- Birth Year - When they were born (e.g., 1965)
- Death Year - If deceased, when they died
- Index Person - Toggle to mark as the main subject
About the Index Person
The index person (also called "proband") is the main subject of the genogram. They're displayed with a double border. Typically this is the client in therapy or the person whose family you're researching.
Moving and Positioning
To reposition people on the canvas:
- Click and drag to move them
- Hold Space and drag to pan the entire canvas
- Use scroll wheel to zoom in/out
