Add, edit, and manage family members
People are the building blocks of every genogram. Learn how to add family members, customize their attributes, and use standard genogram symbols to represent different genders and statuses.
Adding People
Toolbar Method
- 1Click "Add Person" in the toolbar
- 2Select gender (Male, Female, Other)
- 3Person appears on canvas
- 4Double-click to edit details
Quick-Add Method
- 1Select an existing person
- 2Quick-add buttons appear
- 3↑ Parents | ↓ Child | ←→ Partner
- 4Relationship auto-created
Index Person
The index person is the main subject of the genogram, marked with a double border. To set someone as the index person:
- • Select the person
- • Open the Inspector panel (double-click or press I)
- • Toggle "Index Person" option
Gender Symbols
GenogramAI follows standard genogram notation for representing gender. These symbols are universally recognized in clinical and genealogical contexts.

The Inspector is your primary interface for editing person details. Access it by double-clicking any person or pressing I with a person selected.
